Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspection for wear and tear on all fire alarm devices to include fire alarm control panel, batteries, data gathering panel (DGPs), notification appliances, initiating devices, and remote annunciators as per NYC, NFPA, and HRFS requirements
- Conduct mechanical testing on all applicable fire alarm devices as per NYC, NFPA, and HRFS requirements
- Conduct test and response on all applicable fire alarm devices as per NYC, NFPA, and HRFS requirements
- Sanitize all fire alarm devices for proper upkeep and maintenance
- Respond to service requests
- Read and understand system status on Fire Alarm Control Panel (condition, address, device)
- Conduct diagnostic tests to determine cause of alarm and/or trouble system status, as well as ground faults
- Requisition required parts when necessary to repair problem
- Adjust, replace, or repair defective device(s) to meet NYC, NFPA, and HRFS requirements
- Conduct testing on all repaired devices as per NYC, NFPA, and HRFS requirements
- Identify code issues and non-conformance issues, and make recommendations on alternative solutions to client/office
- Elevate status of service call to Programming Unit as required
- Measure, cut, and bend wire
- Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets
- Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings
- Dig trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supports
- Strip insulation from wire ends and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering
- Test completion of circuits using test equipment
- Paint a variety of objects related to electrical functions
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order
- Ensure job site is left in a better state than when we started
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, materials used, and communicate any problem encountered or identified with the alarm system on work order
- Generate system status reports upon completion of testing and inspecting
- Maintain positive client relations through professional interactions with clients
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent / Some Trade School / 6 months to 2 years trade school certification
- 2 year of fire alarm and/or security experience
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems and operation, and fire alarm terminologies
- Understanding and application of NYC Building codes and NFPA fire alarm codes
- Familiarity with all local electrical codes, i.e. Article 760 of National Electrical Code
- Knowledge of fire alarm products, EST products preferred
- Proper use of hand tools (meter, toner, etc.)
- Understanding of basic electronics and electrical theories and principles (Ohm’s Law, AC/DC, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate the safe use of ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and related equipment required
- Knowledge of proper grounding and bonding methods
- Familiarity with electrical equipment and proper terminology, and an understanding of the dangers of live electricity
- Ability to make mathematical computations and color coding, and possess manual dexterity
- Acceptable report writing procedures
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of all company policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate the HRF client service model after having completed the training
