Savage Search Associates is representing one of our favorite clients in search of an Environmental Health & Safety Manager in the Orange County, California location. Our client is a fast growing chemical & raw materials distribution company who specialize in catering to the entire North American market.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Manager to join our team.

This role is essential in providing comprehensive support for all EH&S initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support: Provide professional support regarding EH&S regulations and issues at the site.
  • Compile EH&S data for regulatory reports.
  • Research and recommend compliance strategies for specific EH&S regulations.
  • Training and Development:
  • Conduct and develop training programs for new employees and contractors.
  • Assist in creating and implementing EH&S training programs.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings.
  • Policy Implementation:
  • Develop and implement written EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with plant departments to manage PPE inventories.
  • Issue safety permits as required by EH&S policies.
  • Program Management:
  • Oversee the facility's California Accidental Release Program (CalARP) and hazardous waste management.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of EH&S programs to support compliance and corporate goals.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and company standards.
  • Develop, deploy, and audit EH&S training programs for employees.
  • Safety Oversight:
  • Provide oversight to plant safety and Emergency Response Teams.
  • Create plant safety protocols and conduct periodic safety audits.
  • Ensure the location has a written Crisis Communication plan and lead periodic drills.
  • Occupational Health:
  • Oversee the administration of the Occupational Medical Surveillance Program.
  • Coordinate Process Safety Management programs in collaboration with Production and Maintenance.
  • Environmental Management:
  • Manage complex environmental matters, including groundwater, air permitting, SWPPP, and SPCC.
  • Maintain EH&S recordkeeping systems for timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management:
  • Manage EH&S projects cost-effectively.
  • Participate in corporate EH&S and RC14001 audits, attend relevant training, and maintain proficiency in EH&S skills.
  • Audits and Inspections:
  • Perform and assist with plant-wide and departmental EH&S audits.
  • Conduct daily plant observations/audits and bi-weekly audits with departmental personnel.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis, PPE assessments, and risk assessments for all plant positions.
  • Equipment Inspections:
  • Inspect fire extinguishers monthly and coordinate annual inspections.
  • Manage the spill kit, eyewash, and safety shower equipment programs.
  • Inspect miscellaneous spill kit material inventory.
  • Corrective Actions:
  • Implement corrective actions from internal/external audits, inspections, and observations.
  • Coordinate and manage OSHA on-site consultations and participate in customer audits.
  • Project Engineering Support:
  • Assist the plant engineering department in ensuring safety during capital projects.
  • Incident Management:
  • Facilitate incident investigations and root cause analyses.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Compliance, Engineering, Process Safety, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • 8-10 years of EH&S experience preferrable in the chemical industry or related.
  • Proficiency in California regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with audits and developing Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) systems.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, and EH&S regulations.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel to local and national destinations.
