The FLSD (Fire Life Safety Director) main responsibility is to make sure that all fire safety regulations are in compliance and to implement the fire safety plan of the building assigned. The FLSD operates the fire alarm control panel at the lobby Fire Command Center, make manual voice announcements during a fire emergency to the building occupants, and is a liaison with the fire department upon their arrival.

The FLSD controls and supervises the floor evacuations in the immediate threat area according to the approved building fire safety plan. During an emergency, the FLSD must remain composed and in control of the situation. The FLSD will issue emergency instructions to building occupants in a clear, calmed and concise manner. The FLSD maintains recordkeeping of the building fire protection systems, fire inspections as well as conducting and supervising fire drills.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate fire and life safety log books in accordance with NYC Fire Code
  • Be a liaison between Property Management, building staff and first responders in the event of an emergency
  • Communicate with Site Supervisors and Property Management
  • Conduct drills, training and other day to day oversight of fire and life safety plan in accordance with NYC Fire Code
  • Ensure that all FDNY Inspections, Testing & Maintenance is scheduled, completed and documented
  • Assist in securing the facility as required by the site which may include: access control, patrols and other assigned duties

Job Requirements

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to report to work on time in all types of weather
  • Must be able to meet Face to Face Relief criteria by extending past shift off times while waiting for post relief, working over 8 hours in a shift (adhering to applicable Federal and state Overtime regulations if applicable)
  • Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time in all types of weather, including rain, snow, extreme cold and extreme heat
  • Some lifting required of up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand for up to 8 hours

Minimum Qualifications

  • Security Guard Card State License
  • Valid FLSD Licenses for commercial buildings (F-89 or T-89)
  • Have the legal right to work in the United States
  • State Photo Identification
  • Successful completion of a drug test and pre-employment screening requirements
  • Previous employment verification
