What You'll Do
As a Safety Team Leader, you'll help maintain a safe and secure environment at one of our transitional housing shelters that is located on Wards Island and provides temporary housing for men living with diagnosed mental illnesses. You'll oversee a team of Safety Officers, who are usually the first contact with our residents when they enter one of our facilities. In addition to ensuring residents' safety, our Safety Team helps our residents feel welcome and set the tone for their stay. It is critical that our Safety Team is alert, vigilant, and courteous to our residents. Responsibilities include patrolling facility grounds, ensuring residents and guests are properly signed in, escorting visitors to proper destinations, conducting unit inspections, maintaining accurate documentation and preparing incident reports when necessary.

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising Safety Officers on duty to ensure they are on post, in proper uniform, and in adherence to policies and procedures.
- Documenting individual staff issues as necessary.
- Preparing and submitting on time all necessary administrative reports including incident reports, electronic patrol reports, etc.
Job Requirements
You’re a great fit for this role if you have:
- New York State security guard license and FDNY F-02.
- FDNY F-80 (For most of our locations, we'll give you 90 days after you start to obtain).
- High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent experience and skills.
- Minimum of 18 months security experience in a shelter environment.
- Capacity to work with people experiencing homelessness and mental illness or other disadvantaged people.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to skillfully manage interpersonal relationships.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft applications.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to provide night and weekend coverage as needed.
