We are seeking a Senior Safety Manager to lead and oversee workplace safety programs across our North American operations. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with OSHA, state, local, and industry-specific regulations, while proactively developing and implementing safety policies, training programs, and risk mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in safety compliance, risk management, auditing, and training, with a strategic mindset to drive a culture of safety and operational excellence. This role is onsite (non-remote/non-hybrid) and requires approximately 40% travel to visit our branches around the continental US.

As a senior leader, the Senior Safety Manager will manage safety initiatives, conduct safety audits, analyze accident data, and lead efforts to prevent occupational hazards and ensure employee well-being. This role requires 5+ years of managerial experience and the ability to develop company-wide safety strategies, policies, and compliance procedures.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Safety Audits

  • Ensure company-wide compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain and update records of safety compliance programs, certifications, and audit findings.

Safety Program Development & Implementation

  • Develop and lead comprehensive safety programs to reduce workplace accidents and mitigate risks.
  • Implement initiatives to prevent occupational illnesses, injuries, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
  • Oversee hazardous material handling, disposal procedures, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Lead the creation of workplace safety manuals, training materials, and instructional guides.

Incident Investigation & Risk Mitigation

  • Develop a systemic process to collect and analyze accident data, identifying trends and root causes.
  • Generate required safety reports and present findings to senior leadership.
  • Implement corrective actions and risk mitigation strategies based on incident investigations.
  • Work cross-functionally with department heads to embed safety best practices into operational workflows.

Employee Training & Development

  • Design and implement safety orientation programs for new hires and existing employees.
  • Lead skill-based safety training, emergency response drills, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain records and lead training to certify forklift operators and material handlers on safe handling of Hazardous Materials
  • Ensure managers and employees understand and adhere to safety policies.
  • Stay updated on emerging safety trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance training programs.

Budgeting & Policy Development

  • Develop and manage the safety department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective safety initiatives.
  • Create and maintain policies, procedures, and strategic objectives to support workplace safety compliance.
  • Establish metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Report to executive leadership on safety performance, improvements, and compliance status.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 7-10 years of experience in workplace safety, compliance, and risk management.
  • Minimum 5 years of managerial experience overseeing safety programs.
  • Technical & Industry Knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, and other safety standards.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and auditing safety programs.
  • Strong background in hazardous material handling, emergency preparedness, and industrial safety training.
  • Experience in accident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
  • Proficiency in safety management systems, EHS software, and compliance reporting tools.

  • Ability to work across multiple locations and lead teams across North America.
