Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Manager Safety Management, the selected candidate will be responsible for performing technical duties focused on maintaining a fire safe environment for Port Authority (PA) employees, tenants, and patrons; performing field of physical conditions and of fire protection relevant to occupancy and construction at all PA facilities; conducting or witnessing annual and acceptance tests of fixed fire protection systems and equipment; reviewing and commenting on plans and specifications for tenant and PA areas; participating in final acceptance inspections to assure conformance with codes and approved documents; writing evaluation reports with recommendations for corrective actions; participating in special technical investigations or projects; performing as a fire protection engineering consultant. The position requires travels to all Port Authority facilities and work hours on occasion may include early morning, late evening and weekend shifts to respond to emergencies and safety related events.
Job Requirements
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in fire protection engineering is required.
- Working familiarity with applicable local, state and national codes
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate, prepare, and analyzed technical reports.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct field evaluations and make technical recommendations based on finding
- Excellent problem analysis and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated experience in problem solving and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi task and work independently to complete tasks.
- Strong, proven, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
- The successful candidate will be subject to a comprehensive background check, must pass a finger-print based criminal history records check in order to obtain an airport Security Identification Display (SIDA) credential. The candidate must be able to maintain SIDA credentials throughout your employment in this position.

- Practical safety experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NYC Fire Code, Uniform Fire Code, and NFPA Standards
- Experienced in NYC DOB codes and standards
- Working knowledge of in building fire detection and suppression systems
- Familiarity with Authority Having Jurisdiction status and processes
- Ability to interpret codes and standards and provide guidance to ensure compliance
- Experience conducting plan reviews for Fire and Life Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plans
- Must be able to respond to facility emergency situations as requested
