
Security Officer - Fire Safety Director Certification Required
Job Description
The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking to hire a security officer who is responsible for providing safety and security services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors at the Nightingale-Bamford School, a K–12 independent girls’ school in Manhattan. The security officer is also expected to identify and evaluate security issues and to provide quality solutions in order to maintain a safe and secure academic environment. This position reports to the Director of Safety and Security. This is an exempt position.
The schedule is based on a 40-hour work week. The security officer’s actual work hours will be primarily 2:00 p.m to 10:00 pm but may require flexibility depending on the needs of the school.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Maintain a presence at the front door and screen visitors before they are allowed entrance into the school
- Respond to all calls for service and emergencies throughout the schoolhouse
- Maintain a professional attitude towards the Nightingale community and its guests
- Keep current in the field; have strong working knowledge of pertinent law and stay abreast of developments in the law enforcement and school safety community
- Make physical tours inside and outside of buildings, facilities, and school grounds to make sure the school is safe and secure
- Report school incidents and crimes
- Comply with all policies, procedures, general orders, and instructions
- Complete all required reports
- Perform all other related tasks and duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma from accredited high school or equivalency program
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience
- Valid New York State security guard license
- Background in law enforcement (NYPD preferred) and/or experience as as a security agent in a school environment, or other relevant security experience
- FDNY Fire & Life Safety Director Certificate of Fitness (T-89 or F-89)
- CPR and First Aid certified (school will provide training)
- Ability and willingness to work with all faculty and staff, particularly the school receptionist and director of facilities
- Flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented problem-solver able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a high pressure atmosphere; excellent communications skills a must
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to understand and process all required paperwork and to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Basic computer literacy is required: familiarity with G-Suite applications, navigating CCTV and access control software, and printing visitor badges
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sufficient stamina to perform all essential job functions for a normal eight-hour shift and up to a 16-hour shift in an emergency, with a meal break included in the shift
- Ability to walk the school property, climb stairs, and to assist or carry a disabled, ill, or injured person
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
- Sufficient strength and flexibility for stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, carrying, and other movements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
