Duties: The fire safety director's main mission is to protect life and property. This means planning, developing, implementing and monitoring a fire safety plan that addresses specific fire and life safety systems. To do this properly, the director must know current fire safety code for properties, buildings and other structures. The fire safety director is also in charge of training and supervising personnel needed to carry out the overall mission and each element of a fire safety plan.
Responsibilities
The fire director must see to it that emergency procedures are in place for every building or property so that occupants know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency. The fire director must ensure that plans are adequate and well-developed for safe and timely evacuations and emergency response. The director is also responsible for working with local fire departments and emergency responders to solicit input and support in creating a solid, workable response plan.
Job Requirements
Education and Training Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Knowledge and skill in operation of radio communications equipment
- Knowledge of computerized security alarm systems & Fire Panels
- Fire Director must have a NY State Security License & F-87 License
