MTA Construction Safety Engineer
Job Description
The Contractor Safety Engineer will be responsible for managing and developing safety plans for transit projects, coordinating and supervising contractor safety and health functions, and providing technical and administrative direction to project teams. They will also be responsible for investigating safety and environmental incidents, performing periodic safety audits and job site inspections, and reviewing and maintaining safety documentation. In addition, the Contractor Safety Engineer may represent the company in safety-related meetings and act as a company representative on environmental protection concerns.

- 8-hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Responsibilities
- Providing administrative and technical direction for all project safety and health programs, procedures, and policies.
- Supervising and developing safety personnel as needed.
- Providing direction and assistance to division, project, and department management personnel to ensure compliance with all safety, accident, and fire programs, procedures, and policies.
- Thoroughly investigating all safety and environmental incidents and preparing required reports. Recommending remedial action as needed.
- Representing the company in all safety-related meetings.
- Performing inspections and safety audits.
- Maintaining a daily site safety log and all other safety-related activities, including feedback from competent persons, safety deficiencies, and corrective actions were taken at each worksite.
- Completing hazard and job safety analysis to ensure proper use of machinery and equipment, personal protective equipment, and procedures.
- Conducting accident investigations to ascertain causes and develop preventive safety measures.
- Reviewing all safety documentation/reports for accuracy and completeness, and ensuring that all required documents are forwarded to federal/state/local agencies and the company insurance carrier as required by regulations.
- Maintaining company and project-related safety documentation.
- Acting as the company representative on issues relating to environmental protection concerns.
- Assuming additional responsibilities as directed by the public agency, contractor, or employer.
Job Requirements
- Current C-3 / C-5 Supervisor Training - Required.
- NYS DOL Asbestos Inspectors License - Required.
- NYC DOB 40-Hour Site Safety Manager Course Certificate - Required.
- NYC DOB 62-Hour SST Card - Required.
- NYC DOB 32-Hour Supported Scaffold Supervisor - Required.
- 90 Days of Right-of-Way (ROW) Experience - Required.
- NYCT Track Trained - Required.
- ASSP Membership - Preferred.
- 5+ years of safety management experience in the construction industry - Required.
- Must have knowledge, understanding, and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations & industry best practices.
- Prior acceptance as either a Contractor Safety Engineer (CSE) or Contractor Safety Supervisor (CSS) for MTA projects - Preferred.
