We are currently seeking a full time Manager, Fire & Life Safety to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will coordinate Medical Center’s Fire & Life Safety Program, develop and implement policies and training programs designed to ensure a hazard free environment to assure staff are educated in safe work practices.
Responsibilities
• Prepare quarter reports detailing activities of the Fire & Life Support Programs
• Respond to all emergency fire alarms, directing personnel and department courses of action in emergency situations. Conduct fire drills by NYCFD guidelines.
• Assist with the management of Interim Life Safety measures, above ceiling, hot work and contractor work permitting; work with Planning, Design and Construction department to ensure all projects are evaluated for Life Safety deficiencies and all required implantation to ensure patient and staff safety are adhered to.
• Provide training to all staff affected by the construction of the emergency response guidelines
• Assist with maintenance of all life safety and fire protection maintenance documentation by Joint Commission, CMS, for purpose of licensure and reimbursements.
• Maintain accurate records of all surveys, evaluations, monitoring, and corrective actions in accordance with City, State, Federal regs.
• Support the Hospital Emergency Management Committee, acting as the subject matter expert related to fire and life safety.
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; year for year experience can be substituted for education.
• Strong computer literacy (MS Office, email and TMS Work/Order System)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Fire Safety Director in a high-rise building or large complex
• Proper certification by the appropriate governmental authority to act as a Deputy Fire & Life Safety Director. (F-89 FDNY Certificate of Fitness Fire Life Safety Director)
• Ability to respond to fast-moving, stressful situations and provide clear, concise accurate information to Facilities Management Team & senior management
• Familiarity with the requirements of regulatory agencies regarding hospital safety
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness essential—Fireguard for impairment F-01 (Or obtain within 12 months of employment)
• Addition FDNY certifications preferred – RF-60 Fireguard for Torch Operations, S-12 Supervision of Sprinkler Systems; S-14 Supervision of Multi-zone Standpipe Systems, S-15 Supervision of Foam & Water Sprinkler System. (Or obtain within 12 months of employment)
• Military, law enforcement or firefighting experience preferred
• Knowledge of NFPA, Local Law, DOB, DOH and other regulatory requirements that fall under Fire and Life Safety.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills
