Responsibilities

Position Summary

Serves as a noticeable presence in matters relating to Agency security systems and contracts. Assists in creating a safe and secure environment for residents and employees through oversight of contracts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Responsibilities

  • Assist in safeguarding residents, employees, and assigned areas including buildings, equipment, and property by acting as liaison between EVP Real Estate Management and Security Contractors.
  • Upon receiving a report of criminal activity, follow up with property management and/or contractors to gather additional relevant information that may assist the investigation or identify potential lease violations. Conduct interviews with residents or witnesses as needed and compile a complete investigation packet.
  • Facilitate training programs with the vendors for INLIVIAN staff regarding safety and security policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Promptly respond, if needed, to alarms and safety/security calls.
  • Oversee contracted security company to ensure coverage, consistency, and maximum security obtained.
  • Oversee the contracted agency responsible for camera systems maintenance, ensuring optimal system uptime, comprehensive coverage, and full functionality.
  • Review incident and arrest reports from law enforcement and contracted agencies, providing concise summaries as needed for reporting to the EVP of Real Estate Management.
  • Assists with complaints where necessary.
  • Attend and speak about crime and security programs at site events where/when necessary.
  • Analyze statistical data provided by CMPD or Contracted agencies and make recommendations to EVP of Real Estate Management.
  • Be available on an on-call basis for emergencies.
  • Generate a monthly report on all security activities, issues, progress, and needs.
  • Maintain rapport with staff and contracted agencies.
  • Maintains accessibility and professional demeanor with residents to ensure resident confidence in discussing or reporting issues of concern.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies as appropriate.
  • Assists in developing or enhancing crime prevention programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Controls

The employee receives instructions from the EVP of Real Estate Management. Normally, the employee plans and carries out work activities with minimal supervision and independently resolves problems that arise. The employee receives specific instructions when complaints are brought to the attention of the supervisor; and when the supervisor is contacted by the employee for direction. The employee's work is reviewed for conformity to organizational policies and attainment of objectives.The employee has no supervisory duties.Guidelines

The employee references the North Carolina Criminal Code, and other applicable state, federal, and local laws and ordinances, Agency regulations, rules and policies and procedures as needed in performing assigned duties. All other guidelines are generally given orally and supplement established procedures. If a situation not covered by guidelines arises, the employee consults the supervisor for guidance or, in the case of emergency situations, exercises sound judgment as to the best course of action and notifies law enforcement and/or emergency responders as appropriate to the circumstances.Complexity

The employee performs a variety of tasks which are usually routine and repetitive; however, emergency situations do arise. All tasks require personal judgment and decision-making based on technical knowledge, sound judgment, and experience.Scope and Effect

The employee's work directly affects Agency employees and the residents. Through successful accomplishment of the job duties, the Community Safety Administrator enables the Agency to offer a high degree of continued safety and security to its residents and employees.Personal Contacts

The employee's personal contacts are primarily with employees, contractors, residents, nonresidents, suspicious persons, and other security personnel. Contacts with employees, contractors and residents are particularly important to establish a professional presence and ensure confidence in discussing or reporting issues of concern. The purpose of contacts is to give and obtain information necessary to successful performance and fulfillment of security-related job duties. Conditions under which contacts occur can range from normal to stressful in emergency situations.

Job Requirements

Education And Experience

Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or related field and/or two (2) years’ experience in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge And Skills

  • Working knowledge of North Carolina Penal Code and Vehicle Code.
  • knowledge of methods and techniques of report preparation and writing.
  • knowledge of the principles and procedures of record keeping and filing.
  • knowledge of pertinent Agency policies and procedures.
  • knowledge of local resources available to assist in cases of emergency or dangerous situations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and reason effectively during emergency situations and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to recognize illegal, unsafe, and contraband substances or weapons.
  • Ability to remember details such as faces, license plate numbers, names, and incidents.
  • Ability to collect and preserve evidence.
  • Ability to understand and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions and to communicate and relate to persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to operate appropriate computer equipment and software packages.

Physical Requirements

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a security operations capacity or in an office setting as required.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to eight hours at a time while preforming work duties.
  • Must be able to walk, or run for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents, service agencies, and work-related contacts in an environment that will sometimes include increased levels of work-related stress.
  • Must be able to use fingers bilaterally and unilaterally to perform job-related functions.
  • Must have vision and hearing corrected to be able to perform essential job functions.

Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and the employee is exposed to weather extremes. The employee is subject to normal risks associated with visits to INLIVIAN developments and confrontations with residents and nonresidents.Other Requirements

  • Must possess a valid State of North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license and regularly participate in continuous improvement and education.
  • May be required to work unusual work schedule.
  • Must work with the highest degree of confidentiality.
