GHD’s Northeast Fire Protection & Life Safety business is looking for a Fire Protection Designer to join their team in either Syracuse, NY or Burlington, MA. In this role, you will support a wide variety of projects involving fire protection system design, evaluation, and construction administration for both public and private sector clients throughout the Northeast.

Responsibilities

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Developing drawings and specifications for fire suppression systems (including special suppression systems) in AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Performing computerized hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems
  • Performing drawing reviews for compliance with building and fire codes and contract documents
  • Performing reviews of contractor’s shop drawings, product data and calculations
  • Observing installation of fire protection system for compliance with contract documents and preparing field reports

Job Requirements

  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification in Water Based Fire Suppression
  • 3-8 years of experience in the fire protection industry
  • Expertise in design technology and processes, in particular with Revit & AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of ICC codes and NFPA Standards
  • Knowledge, interpretation and application of relevant client, industry standards
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams and client groups
  • Robust written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
  • A passion for design and innovation
