The Field Safety Coordinator is responsible for performing activities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Ferreira Power West employees and subcontractors. This role involves implementing and monitoring safety programs, conducting safety audits, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies. This position is for the San Diego location.

Responsibilities

Safety Program Implementation:

  • Develop and implement safety programs and procedures related to the activities being performed in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with Ferreira Power West, IBEW, the customer, federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards.

Training and Education:

  • Conduct safety training sessions for field personnel on topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and safe work practices.
  • Keep updated with new safety techniques and procedures and integrate them into training programs.

Safety Audits and Inspections:

  • Perform regular safety audits and inspections of jobsites to identify potential hazards.
  • Coach and correct any deficiencies found in the field.
  • Document findings and recommend corrective actions to address safety issues.

Incident Investigation:

  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses in the field to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Prepare detailed reports of incidents and track corrective actions.

Safety Meetings:

  • Organize and lead safety meetings with field personnel to discuss safety concerns, best practices, and updates on safety protocols.
  • Encourage open communication about safety issues and foster a culture of safety awareness.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all safety documentation is complete, accurate, and up-to-date, including safety manuals, training records, and incident reports.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections, audits, and compliance activities.

Risk Assessment:

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for transmission and distribution operations.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Management, Field Leadership, and all personnel to ensure safety protocols are integrated into daily operations.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Cal/OSHA High Voltage and Low Voltage Safety Orders, Fed OSHA 1910.269 &1926 Subpart V and industry best practices.
  • Recommended 5 years of experience implementing safety policies and procedures in T&D jobsites.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software solutions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various field conditions, including adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record and ability to travel to various job sites.

Work Environment:

  • The position involves working in both office and field environments.
  • Safety gear and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required when in the field.
