Dewberry has an opportunity for a Senior Fire Protection/Plumbing Designer to join a growing group of professional engineers in their New York City office. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in engineering. Project types may include commercial, industrial, laboratory, mission critical facilities, facility condition assessments, and construction cost estimate with clients both public and private Tasks will include but not be limited to fire protection and plumbing systems design, drawing production, hydraulic calculations, specification writing, discipline coordination between the various trades, shop drawing and submittal reviews, construction site reviews, and code reviews. It is also expected that the candidate will mentor younger engineers to foster a highly motivated core of engineers familiar with the aspects of plumbing and fire protection design.Dewberry is a leading, market-facing professional services firm with more than 50 locations and 2,000 professionals nationwide. Salary Range

The projected salary range for this position is $93,000-$115,000 annually in our New York City office.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Work with a project team and lead the design of fire protection and plumbing systems.
  • Field verification of existing systems, available space, clearances, etc.
  • Load calculations, hydraulic calculations, sizing and selecting equipment, piping design, and editing of specifications.
  • Prepare design documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit software in accordance with Dewberry standards.
  • Arrange for in-house quality review in a timely manner primarily to ensure that all the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated.
  • Ensure and coordinate among all disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Conduct construction site inspections, obtain as-built drawings, and closeout materials from contractors.
  • Some project management including scoping work, scheduling resources, and estimating cost.
  • Supervise small to medium sized teams.
  • Provide technical leadership to junior staff.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to teams of professional and non-professional staff.
  • Review of fire protection and plumbing systems designed by others, interface with code officials and contractors, working with architects and clients, and working with others within the Dewberry family of companies.

Job Requirements

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor of science in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering degree is required, and from an ABET accredited university is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including experience in dealing with other employees and external clients, including the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must be proficient with hydraulic calculation software, HydraCALC preferred.
  • Must have experience developing complete shop drawings in accordance to NFPA 13.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, construction drawings and specifications, project schedules and cost estimates to meet project requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and investigate problems.
  • Experience coordinating work schedules and preparing progress reports.
  • Experience recommending changes in cost estimates and scopes of work when necessary.
  • Ability to work under own direction and interface directly with the client.
  • Must have ability to generate big picture ideas and solutions at the beginning stage of projects.
  • Must have ability to run projects from beginning to finish.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of fire protection, plumbing, and medical gas systems and codes.
  • Pursuit of registrations, accreditations, and continuing education related to Dewberry areas of practice and candidates’ level of expertise will be encouraged.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Valid driver’s license and background check is required.
