Responsibilities

Fire Protection Inspector/Engineer

Exciting opportunity for an experienced Fire Protection Inspector/Engineer to contribute to NYC's most visible and prestigious structures: JFK, LaGuardia & Newark Airports; GWB, Goethals & Bayonne Bridges; Lincoln & Holland Tunnels; and more!

  • Perform inspections of fire protection and life safety systems at Port Authority facilities
  • Attend acceptance inspections
  • Review design drawings

Job Requirements

Mandatory Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of cumulative qualified experience designing, installing, inspecting, operating, or maintaining various types of fire protection systems and equipment such as:

  • Fire pumps
  • Water-based (sprinkler & standpipe) systems
  • Alternative suppression systems, and/or special hazard suppression systems
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Fire/smoke dampers

Consideration will also be given to related experience such as:

  • Systems acceptance, commissioning, and testing; systems acceptance, testing, and maintenance; facility condition assessments for Fire Protection and Life Safety (FPLS) systems;
  • State of good repair projects or programs;
  • Technical audits.

Mandatory Education/Certifications:

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in engineering, or credits toward completion of a degree; and/or
  • NJ or NY certification as a Fire Inspector, Fire Official, or Fire Subcode Official, and/or
  • NFPA Certification, or ICC Certification, or NICET Certification in fire suppression or fire alarm fields.

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of NY and NJ Construction Codes, Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Hold, or ability to obtain, the following security clearances, which include an extensive (Federal) background check: SWAC, TWIC, and SIDA clearance
  • Have, or ability to obtain, OSHA 10.
  • Have, or ability to obtain, Supported Scaffold Training.
  • Interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Organizational skills to correctly prioritize inspection assignments and to organize and prepare reports.
  • Valid driver’s license.
