Job Description
General Function
The Executive Director of Public Safety (CE) will develop, plan, organize, and monitor the instructional and administrative activities for the Public Safety training courses in accordance with institutional policy and procedure. The role ensures compliance with standards mandated by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM) and the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), NC Commission Standards, to include BLET. The Director provides program leadership in all phases of Public Safety programs, ensuring a quality training process and serving as a liaison between communities of interest and the programs.

Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Foster a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty, and staff.
- Provide leadership for the implementation policies, rules, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the administration of all areas of responsibility.
- Manage directors and staff, assign work, conduct performance evaluations, ensure training, enforce policies and procedures, and oversee hiring and disciplinary actions.
- Holds regular meetings with directors to ensure excellent communication, support uniform processes, and foster interdepartmental collaboration.
- Manages the supervision and evaluation of professional development plans for full and part-time instructors and staff.
- Act as a departmental contact and liaison with corporate clients for training recommendations, instructor assignments, and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with consortium groups, advisory boards, and community stakeholders to create and deliver industry-relevant training opportunities.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies in collaboration with Central Piedmont’s Marketing Services.
- Plan and manage program budgets, including staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies, while monitoring expenditures.
- Build and maintain vendor partnerships, internal and external relationships, and act as a liaison to internal departments.
- Monitor classes and ensure course documentation meets auditing requirements.
- Supervise instructional delivery of assigned program areas consistent with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise accreditation processes and maintain relationships with Mecklenburg County Police Agencies, Mecklenburg County Fire Agencies, Medic, Emergency Management Service, and Mecklenburg County Public Health and Wake Forest Health
- Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and licensing agencies.
- Oversee North Carolina State Commission programs. Ensure that the requirements of OSFM and OEMS are met and documented appropriately.
- Represent the institution on state and regional advisory committees and boards.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and maintain licensures.
- Engage in college meetings, events, and committees as required.
- Oversee instructor training and program development, ensuring compliance with NC Training and Standards commission, OEMS and OSFM requirements.
- Oversee instructional and administrative activities within Public Safety CE programs to include scheduling.
- Interface with external customers to assess training needs and instructional delivery.
- Coordinate and assist with the construction planning, hiring, and management of both Merancas and Levine Training Facilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong ability to work independently and lead high-performing teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of employee training and performance evaluation principles.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills. Proficiency in computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Senior Leadership (senior manager, executive managers or upper managers) experience in a Public Safety field.
- NC Community College work experience
