Job Title: Fire Safety/FDNY Course Instructor (FT)
Schedule: Monday-Thursday day and evening classes, weekend availability helpful

The Fire Safety/FDNY Course Instructor delivers student-centered FDNY instruction, providing a positive, supportive, and professional atmosphere to assist students in successfully completing their programs of study. Additional responsibilities include curriculum development and implementation, special projects, verifying student competencies, student advisement, meeting student retention, maintaining student records, budget management, marketing courses, and maintaining contact with industry subject matter experts.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide student-centered instruction and training in both theory and hands-on skills
- Develop and implement appropriate assignments and student learning assessments
- Assist in identifying appropriate training modules and incorporating photos from building systems for training
- Ensure classroom lectures contain essential curriculum components and reflect current industry trends
- Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner
- Advise current and prospective students
- Participate in and contribute to instructor development activities throughout the year; lead fellow instructors by example
- Provide follow up coaching to fellow instructors on implementing concepts from training, workshops, and observations
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Appropriate FDNY certification(s) specific to the designated courses including FDNY: Fire Life Safety Director, FDNY: Fire Guard, FDNY: Standpipe and Sprinkler S12, S13, S14, S15, FDNY: Fire Guard for Shelters Citywide: F02, FDNY: Indoor/Outdoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel: F03/F04, FDNY: Fire & Life Safety Director On-Site Prep: F89, FDNY: Fire Guard for Torch Operations: F60, FDNY: Coordinator of Fire Safety & Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters: F80, etc.)
- Knowledge of applicable FDNY regulations and standards
- Prior teaching experience with students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds
- Proficiency using digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data
- High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
