Fire Engineer

Our New York office is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to play an active role in the continued growth and delivery of Arup's fire protection engineering practice in the Americas. This role can also be based out of our Washington, D.C. or Boston, MA office locations. This position will work closely with leading architects/engineers, process designers, end-users and building developers/owners, and will provide innovative, facility-specific, and performance-based solutions for a wide range of projects spanning commercial, property, healthcare, government and institutional sectors. The successful candidate will complement our fire protection engineers by developing and leading the engineering services on our projects, managing their own projects and mentoring colleagues. You will be working with a creative, innovative, and self-motivated team in the Americas Region. The America's fire and life safety team forms an integral part of the global fire engineering team which spans 20 offices around the world. The role will involve interactive and collaborative working with our fire engineers and multi-disciplinary colleagues. The projects will be diverse, exciting and range from conceptual fire strategy development to delivery of landmark projects in the built environment.
Responsibilities
Provide fire protection and life safety consulting engineering services to a variety of potential clients, including but not limited to architects, developers, owners, government and insurers. Development of comprehensive fire and life safety strategies. Code consulting and experience with ICC (IBC, IFC, IMC) and NFPA Standards. Suppression, detection and/or smoke control strategy/design development. Developing performance-based strategies and/or code alternates, utilizing fire engineering, including fire dynamics calculations and modeling for fire hazards. Presenting design approaches to code officials. Managing multiple projects, project planning, staffing, budgeting, monitoring and successful project delivery. Developing client relationships, pursuing new business opportunities and experience developing proposals. Contributing to our research and development activities. Job Requirements
Qualified professionals will have: Bachelors or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional working experience in Fire Protection. P.E. license in fire protection engineering is desired. Candidate must possess good communication skills essential for team-based working, excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment, and must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges. Strong presentation skills and ability to convey technical findings and solutions to owners, user groups and design teams. Working knowledge of relevant software, including Office suite of software, FDS, AutoCAD / Revit is desired.
