Fire Marshal
Job Description
Under direction from NYRA Management, Fire Marshals work to prevent and suppress fires and perform Emergency Medical Technician emergency service work in the field. Fire Marshals are responsible for responding to emergency situations and assisting with controlling and resolving the situation. Fire Marshals work within the scope of established NYRA Fire Safety Rules, Regulations and Procedures, however, are expected to exercise considerable judgment and initiative in emergency situations. NYRA’s objective is to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in all emergencies
Responsibilities
- Inspects areas of responsibility and identify and corrects any egress barriers.
- Inspects areas of responsibility to identify and mitigate any fire hazards.
- Directs and assist patrons and employees in evacuation during an emergency.
- Inspects and maintains firefighting and medical equipment as supplied by NYRA.
- Responds to Fire Alarm Activations
- Responds to Emergency Medical Calls
- Address daily emergencies and non-emergencies as they arise.
- Follows State rules, regulations and standards for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level of care.
- Prepares and submits routine records and reports
- Performs related duties as directed.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver License
- Fire Marshal candidaes must possess and maintain NYS Certification as Firefighter 1 or equivalent with ICS100, 700
- EMT candidates must possess and maintain NYS Certification as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Must possess and maintain Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Prior experience with a career or volunteer Fire Department.
- Prior experience with Basic Life Support (BLS) methods, procedures and practices.
- Customer relations skills; having the ability to deal diplomatically with patrons
- Ability to observe, and objectively and clearly report emergency and non- emergency situations.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to understand and clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing, instructions.
