
Construction Inspector-Fire-Rated, Construction/Egress
Job Description
STV is seeking one to two Construction Inspectors – Fire-Rated Construction/Egress for out PM/CM group in NYC.
The Inspector will oversee interior fit-out projects, ensuring compliance with fire protection, life safety, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) requirements. The inspector will be responsible for verifying the proper installation of fire-rated assemblies, firestopping, egress pathways, and life safety systems in "white box" interior spaces.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site inspections of fire-rated walls, doors, dampers, and penetrations to ensure compliance with fire safety codes.
- Verify installation of fire protection systems, including sprinklers, alarms, and smoke control systems.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), IBC (International Building Code), and ADA egress requirements.
- Inspect MEP system installations to confirm integration with fire-rated assemblies and emergency egress systems.
- Monitor contractor work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to approved construction plans.
- Review and approve firestopping applications and fireproofing materials in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, fire marshals, and contractors to address compliance issues.
- Document findings through inspection reports, deficiency logs, and photographic records.
- Ensure egress routes, emergency lighting, and exit signage meet local building codes and life safety standards.
- Oversee final fire inspections and assist with occupancy permit approvals.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5 years of experience in fire-rated construction inspection, life safety, or commercial interior fit-outs.
- Strong knowledge of fire-resistant materials, passive fire protection, and life safety egress requirements.
- Experience with MEP systems, fire suppression, and alarm system integration.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, fire protection plans, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, IBC, and local fire codes.
- Proficiency in inspection reporting software and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on healthcare, aviation, or high-occupancy commercial projects.
- Knowledge of firestop inspections, rated door assemblies, and UL-listed fireproofing systems.
- Certification in fire protection engineering or egress design.

- Work may require field inspections in active construction zones and coordination with fire safety officials
