The Senior EHS Leader is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs within Specialty Products and Insulation (SPI), ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, minimizing workplace risks, and promoting a culture of safety by leading and mentoring EHS managers and coordinators, collaborating with various departments, and advising leadership on EHS strategies and initiatives; acting as a subject matter expert on EHS matters.

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive EHS strategy aligned with SPI goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and manage EHS budgets, resource allocation, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with senior management to integrate EHS priorities into decision-making and business processes.
  • Collaborate with business partners to achieve and maintain facilities and site activities that are compliant with local regulations
  • Lead and mentor a team of EHS professionals, including EHS managers and safety coordinators to achieve and maintain compliance with current and future legal, regulatory, and SPI requirements.
  • Define and track team performance metrics aligned with organizational EHS objectives.
  • Promote a collaborative approach to achieving EHS goals across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and international EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address compliance gaps.
  • Support in-depth analysis of the business including analysis and assessment of trend data for EH&S improvement opportunities and develop/implements programs to reduce risk and achieve and maintain compliance
  • Develop and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks, including safety procedures, engineering controls, and training programs.
  • Apply CORE (Customer Oriented, Results and Excellence), Lean and other continuous improvement techniques to develop and implement process improvements
  • Investigate incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training based on job roles.
  • Promote a safety culture through communication, employee engagement, and leadership involvement.
  • Oversee environmental management programs including waste reduction, pollution prevention, and emissions monitoring.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to minimize environmental impact of operations.

Job Requirements

Education, Skills, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, safety management, industrial hygiene, or related field; minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Experienced People Leader: Leadership abilities to motivate and influence others on safety matters
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant EHS certification preferred
  • Successful history of partnering with an Operations leadership team to drive a mature and engaged EHS Management System
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS programs
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, local and international EHS regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to manage budgets and prioritize projects
  • Knowledge of sustainability programs and approach to environment, energy and resource conservation reducing the overall environmental footprint
  • Understanding of factory equipment, manufacturing, distribution operations, field safety and EH&S management systems; experience working in fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy within a diverse organization
  • Continuous Improvement experience e.g. CORE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Physical demands may include but are not limited to:

  • High level of walking, sitting, standing, and/or climbing
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  • Work outside/inside around machinery with moving parts and vehicles
  • Exposure to all seasons of weather, as well as slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30lbs
