Position Overview: Security Supervisor (Healthcare Setting)

The Security Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the security services within the hospital environment, ensuring the safety and well-being of the premises, staff, patients, and visitors. This supervisory position requires a proactive approach to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access, all while upholding a professional and authoritative demeanor.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision of Patrol and Surveillance:
    • Oversee and coordinate routine patrols of hospital buildings, facilities, and grounds to detect and deter potential security threats.
    • Provide guidance on the utilization of surveillance equipment to monitor areas for suspicious activities, ensuring a proactive response to security concerns.
  2. Crime Prevention Leadership:
    • Lead efforts to actively prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access by maintaining a visible and active presence in key areas of the hospital.
    • Exercise vigilant oversight, remaining alert to unusual activities, and taking decisive action to address potential security breaches.
  3. Visitor Management and Supervision:
    • Supervise the monitoring of visitor conduct on hospital premises, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and regulations.
    • Direct the professional confrontation of unauthorized individuals for questioning and oversee appropriate actions as necessary.
  4. Emergency Response Coordination:
    • Coordinate and lead prompt and effective responses to security and safety incidents, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and security breaches.
    • Ensure adherence to established protocols, fostering a rapid and coordinated response to emergencies.
  5. Incident Reporting Oversight:
    • Oversee the documentation of all security-related incidents, including suspicious activities, safety hazards, security violations, and emergency responses.
    • Ensure the preparation of accurate and detailed incident reports, overseeing their submission to the appropriate authorities as required.
  6. Collaboration Leadership:
    • Lead collaboration efforts with hospital staff, law enforcement, and emergency services personnel to enhance and coordinate security efforts.
    • Foster effective communication within the team, providing leadership and support during critical situations.
  7. Access Control Management:
    • Supervise the monitoring of access points, identity verification, and enforcement of access control measures to maintain the integrity of secure zones.
  8. Safety and Fire Hazard Reporting Oversight:
    • Oversee the identification and reporting of potential safety hazards, fire risks, or breaches of safety protocols to designated authorities.
    • Supervise participation in fire drills and evacuation exercises to enhance overall preparedness.
  9. Leadership in Professional Conduct:
    • Provide leadership in maintaining a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all security-related matters.
    • Uphold the hospital's code of conduct and ensure adherence to all security policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements: Security Supervisor (Healthcare Setting)

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED: Candidates must possess a valid High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • CPR Training: Candidates should have current CPR training certification.
  • New York State Security Guard 8 and 16 Hour Certifications: Candidates must hold valid certifications for both the 8-hour pre-assignment training course and the 16-hour on-the-job training course.
  • State ID Card: Candidates must possess a valid state ID card as evidence of holding the required New York State Security Guard certifications.

Driver's License and Driving Record:

  • Valid Driver's License: Candidates must have a current, valid Driver's License.
  • Clean Driving Record: Candidates should have a clean driving record.
  • DMV Abstract: Candidates must be able to produce a DMV abstract as verification of their driving record.

Additional Licenses:

  • F-01 Fireguard License: Candidates must hold a valid F-01 Fireguard license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of Three Years Supervisory Experience in Security (Healthcare Setting Preferred): Candidates should have a minimum of three years of supervisory experience, demonstrating leadership in a security role, preferably within a healthcare environment.
