Job Description

The Fire Alarm & Security Specialist is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of commercial and industrial fire alarm and security systems. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and national codes, manages daily project schedules, and provides technical expertise across multiple job sites. Strong communication, attention to safety, and customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to stay current through ongoing training and certifications.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

System Installation & Configuration:

  • Install, program, test, and troubleshoot commercial and industrial fire alarm system panels, devices, and associated wiring
  • Work with hardware and software components related to fire alarm systems to ensure full system functionality
  • Perform installations in compliance with manufacturer specifications, project plans, and applicable codes

Code Compliance & Documentation:

  • Inspect work areas and complete Job Hazard Analysis prior to starting any work
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable state, local, and national fire alarm codes
  • Recognize that fire alarm systems are life safety systems, and maintain a high level of diligence in ensuring their reliability and accuracy
  • Maintain proper documentation of testing, inspections, and installations in accordance with regulatory standards

Project Management & Training:

  • Manage and schedule personal workload to meet customer deadlines and project milestones
  • Coordinate effectively with project managers, contractors, and end users to ensure successful project execution
  • Travel to and manage multiple job sites daily as needed
  • Attend required training and certification programs related to fire alarm systems and technology advancements
  • Stay current with industry trends, product updates, and changes in regulatory requirements

Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination:

  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention.
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Support goal of achieving zero accidents.
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Minimum 2 years experience installing, testing and troubleshooting fire alarm systems
  • NICET certified in fire alarm systems preferred

EXPERIENCE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
  • Excellent Organizational skills and accurate record keeping
  • Positive attitude and high integrity with the ability to make solid connections with customers
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and /or walking, & climbing up & down ladders
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, kneeling, balancing
  • Climbing ladders of various heights and working in cramped corridors
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull minimum of 50 lbs. with no assistance
  • Standing for over 95% of workday and / or sitting for 2 hours at a time
  • Working in indoor & outdoor conditions
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus
  • Operate motor vehicles independently
  • Operate technologies and equipment as required by the installation plan
