The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining our Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety Systems to promote a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The EHS Manager will drive continuous improvement efforts with the goal of achieving world-class performance in the company's manufacturing facilities located in Charlotte NC, Eloy AZ, Euclid OH and Evansville IN. In addition, this role will also oversee Safety and DOT compliance for our on-site service centers (MI, OH, KY, GA, NC, AR, AL).

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively promote a company-wide proactive safety culture by working closely with leadership to establish the systems, processes and tools to continuously improve overall safety performance.
  • Understand local, state and federal occupational health and safety regulations, monitor any changes and advise leadership of changes that may be applicable to our operations.
  • Ensure company compliance with local, state and federal occupational health and safety regulations (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT) including all reporting, auditing, inspections, and related follow-up. Serve as the primary contact for related external representatives.
  • Develop, maintain and report on EHS measures and key performance indicators. Work with leadership to create associated EHS goals that promote the desired proactive safety culture.
  • Develop and maintain the required EHS processes, procedures and records
  • Develop and manage a company wide EHS training program including curriculum for any required safety training, forklift, crane and rigging, emergency response, etc. Maintain any required records and reporting for the training program. Serve as the primary EHS trainer or coordinate external training as needed.
  • Lead investigations and drive root cause and corrective action for any EHS incidents, injuries and near-misses.
  • Manage PPE program to recommend proper PPE and ensure its availability where needed.
  • Develop and maintain facility and equipment inspection procedures and coordinate a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Manage all workers' compensation and vehicle claims, including investigation, reporting, OSHA logs, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a company return-to-work program
  • Establish regular contact with appropriate insurance companies to understand all relevant billings
  • Develop and manage the company's hazardous waste program, including monitoring hazardous waste storage, disposal and any required records and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain an environmental stewardship program to continuously improve our carbon footprint and material recycling
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and customer service skills, team oriented.
  • Be available periodically on off-shifts and weekends for incident response, training or EHS related meetings
  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective training curriculum, presentations and materials to individual and groups settings for all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Detailed knowledge of 29 CFR 1910, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001
  • Expected up to 20% travel for training, inspections or incident investigations (work/office location will be based in the Charlotte NC manufacturing plant, and will periodically need to visit our other manufacturing facilities located in Eloy Arizona, Euclid Ohio and Evansville Indiana; as well as a periodic visit, as needed, to our field service centers (MI, KY, OH, AL, AR, GA, NC).
  • Must be within a reasonable daily commutable distance from the Charlotte manufacturing plant; with the ability to respond onsite quickly to any after hours incidents and/or emergencies as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 7+ years’ EHS experience in a manufacturing/ logistics environment
  • Experience designing and implementing behavior-based safety programs
  • Experience with DOT (Non-CDL) fleet safety management preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • OSHA 30
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification (if not yet obtained, Willing to work toward)
