In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our Product Supply Aseptic Manufacturing (PS AM) facility in Clayton, NC is a 457,000 square foot aseptic "fill and finish" site that is responsible for producing innovative, injectable diabetes and obesity treatments. The Position

Provide leadership & support in attaining a safe, healthy & environmentally responsible working environment. Provide direct support for PSAM operations.

Relationships

Reports to Senior Manager.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Implementation of environmental & safety programs
  • Support EHS aspects as required including interactions with various regulatory and governmental agencies ensuring compliance with local, county, state and federal requirements
  • Provide expertise & solutions to relevant personnel & projects to resolve known or potential issues
  • Conduct EHS assessments/inspections & work with area managers to ensure timely remediation of identified issues
  • Provide training & tools for the core processes to improve performance
  • Communicate EHS performance statistics on a routine basis
  • Review recordable accidents & coach root cause analysis, corrective & preventive actions for assigned departments
  • Provide back up for emergency management/fire systems
  • Drive actions to achieve overall EHS strategies (e.g. “Circular for Zero”)
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other accountabilities as assigned

Job Requirements

Physical Requirements

Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, or related field of study from an accredited university required and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a safety environment required, preferably in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • In lieu of Bachelor's Degree with one (1) year of experience, may consider an Associate's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, or related field of study from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a safety environment required, preferably in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • In lieu of Bachelor's Degree with one (1) year of experience, may consider a High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a safety environment experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • Intermediate working knowledge of OSHA & Environmental regulations required
  • Skills in root cause analysis for analyzing accidents preferred
  • Ability to complete comprehensive EHS assessments/inspections independently preferred
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001/18001 preferred
  • Emergency Management/planning knowledge & experience a plus
  • Pharmaceutical (cGMP) experience a plus
  • Good communication & writing skills preferred
  • Working knowledge of fire detection/suppression/prevention systems a plus
  • Able to develop & manage action plans to achieve targets required
