Job Description

Responsibilities
Under general supervision, inspects and repairs all HVAC and refrigeration equipment in the power plant. Performs repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Performs related duties as required. Installs or replaces thermometers, pumps, air ducts and air conditioning units. Fabricates various metal parts to repair equipment working from blueprints or sketches. Replaces and repairs steam and air conditioning coils, motors, valves, and gaskets. Performs welding, brazing, soldering of equipment including bearings, coils and copper tubing. Lubricates motors and compressors. Documents repairs and parts used. May prepare written requests for repairs. Maintains clean work area. Operates and maintains all types of testing equipment, electric tools and machine shop tools, i.e., drills, pipe cutting and threading machine, benders, milling machine, drill press, soldering iron, acetylene torch and oxygen acetylene welder. Performs welding, brazing and soldering of equipment.
Job Requirements
HS Diploma or GED required
Completion of a trade apprenticeship program. Five years of experience of a HVAC & refrigeration mechanic. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Must possess the following FDNY Certificates:
S-12 Citywide Sprinkler Systems
S-13 Citywide Standpipe System
G71 Supervision of Piped Non-Flammable Medical Gases
P99 Con Low PSI Oil Burn
G60 Torch Use of Flammable Gases
F60 Fire Guard for Torch Operations & Const. Site
S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Other Related System
