Responsibilities
The Lead Plumbing & Fire Protection Designer is a key member of the project team, leading and managing project design initiatives under the Trade Design Manager. Responsibilities include supervising a team of Design professionals to produce high-quality trade-specific schematics & layouts. The Lead Designer manages all design team functions, including surveys, calculations, selections & layouts, and plays a lead role in communicating with all project stakeholders. They provide leadership support in the construction administration process, including shop drawing review, field observations, and report preparation. The Lead Designer is fully capable of taking on the Job Captain role.

Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of experience as a Designer, with at least 2 years in a Senior Designer Role, as part of a professional engineering project team.
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading engineering projects of varying sizes and complexities.
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading engineering teams of various sizes.
- 4-year Engineering degree.
- Professional Engineering License preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written).
- Highly organized and composed under pressure.
- Ability to manage strict timelines with multiple projects and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word, AutoCAD & REVIT.
Role-Specific Competencies
- Computer Aided Design (Level 2 - Advanced Proficiency): AutoCAD & REVIT - Able to develop professional drawing templates, create multi-scale views, utilize object and layer filtering, globally edit entities, analyze and apply methods to create complex geometry, streamline tasks, create custom linetypes, and use special fonts.
- Plumbing, Sprinkler & Fire Protection Engineering (Level 3 - Functional Mastery): Perform independent design, advanced use of company standards, troubleshoot existing systems, generate specifications, advanced knowledge of codes and standards, produce surveys and reports, educate L2 engineers.
- Project Management (Level 3 - Functional Mastery): Repeated successful project completions, may require occasional expert help but can perform independently.
- Communication (Level 3 - Functional Mastery): Effective written and verbal communication, tailors communication to the audience, utilizes creative methods to communicate complex ideas, anticipates objections in negotiations, identifies key decision-makers.
