Responsibilities

Responsible for leading the safety teams on self-perform projects and partnering with the Director, Safety and senior management to drive an organizational agenda to ensure a world-class safety culture and zero injury safety system.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Meaningfully contribute to developing an effective Health and Safety strategy and program for the organization and its construction projects; reinforce safety messaging and the zero-injury safety culture.

  • In conjunction with the Director, Safety, division leaders and recruiting team, determine and meet safety resource/staffing requirements in support of the business/ project requirements; drive the safety selection and hiring process for safety professionals.
  • Provide active coaching and mentoring to safety resources to ensure they develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and perform at a high level; confront underperformers as needed and offboard those who consistently fail to meet expectations.
  • During the pursuit, pre-construction, and execution phases of projects, ensure minimized risk, company compliance and administration of Corporate, State, Federal, Local and Industry safety standards, laws, and guidelines identified in all aspects of projects, including:
    • Provide guidance/advice to safety management and project management in review of customer technical documents and preparation of site-specific safety plans.
    • Regularly participate in internal monthly project status meetings, visit project sites and provide feedback to site and senior management for opportunities for performance/culture improvement and compliance.
    • Supports and coaches trade contractors to improve their safety programs and outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication with the executive leadership team, operations and execution teams on all matters related to safety; asks hard questions regarding safety inclusion in project planning and execution and pushes back, as needed.
  • Partner with the Operational Excellence Committee to ensure we are incorporating Safety best practices into our performance excellence standards and “Graycor Way” playbook.
  • In conjunction with the Director, Safety, ensure the Safety and Health policies, procedures, manuals, tools, and resources are maintained and meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Analyze metrics and identify trends to make recommendations and inform organizational decision-making on the direction of Health and Safety programs.
  • Participate in local and national industry safety committees to identify emerging tools, resources, regulatory changes, and thought leadership as benchmarks to evaluate and continuously improve our Health and Safety program.
  • Actively participate in ACIG (the Company’s captive insurance group) safety peer groups.

  • Serve as the lead when interacting with OSHA and other safety regulatory agencies; maintain a safety information system capable of meeting OSHA and company information requirements.
  • Serve as technical resource for questions, research, and changes in the OSHA and various state safety and health codes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • An undergraduate degree in occupational safety, construction management, or related degree or the equivalent job-related experience to be able to perform the functions of the position.
  • Ten (10) plus years of previous construction safety experience supporting projects across the country; previous experience with both self-perform and heavy industrial construction work environment strongly preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and OSHA 500 or 510 certification preferred.
  • Strong software skills including MS Outlook, Teams Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Procore; strong report writing skills required.
  • This position requires confidence, independent action, initiative, a controlled sense of urgency, and the ability to partner and collaborate with senior operations managers, and project teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required; ability to facilitate training sessions or meetings with a large group of craft and staff employees.
  • Effective management, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and interact with client representatives, project managers, superintendents and state/federal OSHA officials required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Be willing to travel regularly to project sites as needed.
