Health and Safety Specialist
Job Description
Our safety team is currently looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our growing team! In conjunction with the Corporate Health & Safety Group, this position primarily assists in the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental control management systems for GF operations in accordance with the GF Corporate EH&S Program and Project specific health and safety requirements. This position also assists with and has a focus toward the Construction Services & Facilities Corporate Business Groups’ EH&S compliance efforts. However, support across all GF Business Groups will be an expectation.
Responsibilities
Principal Responsibilities and essential functionsReports to the Corporate Health & Safety Director and collaborates with the Corporate Health & Safety Group to develop and implement a proactive health, safety, and environmental system.Increase EH&S awareness throughout the Company with an emphasis on the Construction Services and Facilities Business Groups.Provide safety and environmental/industrial hygiene technical consultation.Provide and/or coordinate health & safety training throughout the Company.Assist in the administration of the Corporate Occupational Medical Monitoring Program.Prepare appropriate reports for governmental, insurance, client and other purposes, as needed.Advise the Company staff on safety and health matters.Checks that GF site activities are conducted in a safe manner by conducting periodic observations of site activities and provides coaching on observed deficiencies and positive feedback on compliant practices.Documents observations and applicable corrective actions for project files and communication to the Corporate Safety Group and GF Business Groups.Assist in the development and implementation of Company EH&S standard operating procedures and policies involving safety and health related issues.Advises the GF Corporate Health & Safety Group on health and safety issues that affect Company operations. Collaborates to ensure that health & safety provisions and training are adequate to support an effective health, safety, and environmental control program relative to Company operations.Ensures that GF site personnel are informed of potential health & safety hazards associated with their assigned tasks and verifies that safe work practices and procedures outlined in the Corporate Safety programs.Authorized to stop an operation that threatens the health or safety of GF personnel or the surrounding populace or has the potential for a significant adverse impact to the environment (STOP YOUR WORK).
Job Requirements
Education | Experience:Education and Licensing requirementsBachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety or related science requiredProfessional designations of ASP, GSP, OHST, or CHST a plus. Desire to achieve CSP and/or CIH a plus. Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or experience 3-7 years of experience in health and safety management.Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standardsConstruction health & safety experience desirable.Excellent knowledge and experience using Adobe Professional Suite and Microsoft Office Suite – specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.Proven ability to complete tasks in a deadline driven environment.Thorough understanding of legal health and safety guidelines and risk mitigation.Ability to work closely and regularly with staff members who work in regional or project field offices.Ability to independently prioritize assigned work.Excellent technical writing, oral, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.Experience in developing and performing EH&S training.OSHA 30-hour Construction Health & Safety certification or desire to obtain. Additional NotesMust be able and willing to independently travel and be physically present in the office or at project sites. Nationwide travel of about 30-40% is an expectation.Other duties may be assigned as necessary and as may be required by approved and executed agreements GF may enter into with specific clients. Project site and office work environment. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Also, must be capable of walking and traversing project sites that may contain climbing and uneven terrain.
