Direct hiring authority for 0804 series is being used to fill this position.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform professional engineering duties/responsibilities of which are to advise on, administer, supervise, or perform research or other professional and scientific work to protect life and property from destructive fire. The work typically involves: (1) Assessment and prediction of fire hazards or risks; (2) Mitigation of fire damage by proper design, construction, and arrangement of facilities; (3) Research, development, and testing of fire protection technologies (e.g., halon and water mist applicators); (4) Design, construction, inspection, testing, and operation of fire detection and fire suppression apparatus, appliances, devices, and systems; and (5) Assessment of fire protection requirements.

Qualifications

Qualifications Reference: HRPM, EMP-1.7 Qualifications and OPM General Schedule Qualification Standards. OPM Standards for All Engineers 0800 Occupational Series

In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for positions above the FV-G level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess the specialized experience noted below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that are typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

FV-H. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS-5 thru 9 level. Examples may include but not limited to: prepare, provide, and evaluate conventional plans, designs, design specifications, and related documentation; inspecting facilities to assess compliance with OSHA and EOSH policies; participating in design and design reviews for fire protection engineering aspects of facilities and construction projects.

FV-I. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, (FG/GS-11/12) level. Examples may include but are not limited to: experience with various fire protection systems such as detection, notification, and suppression; conducts assessments and predicts safety hazards and risks for new and existing FAA structures; conducts site inspections, overseeing the testing and operation of fire detection and fire suppression apparatus.

FV-J. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS 13 level. Examples may include but are not limited to: analyzing and evaluating adequacy of fire protection systems; preparing and presenting complex code interpretations; conducting fire and life-safety designs in support of construction/installation projects for FAA facilities; provide professional engineering solutions to repair, modernize, operate and install fire suppression and fire reporting systems in new and existing FAA structures.

FV-K. Possession of at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J, FG/GS 14 level. Examples may include but are not limited to: coordinate and oversee develop fire protection system plans, reports, assessments, analyses, findings and recommendations; investigating incidents to determine cause, develop corrective actions, track trends, and share lessons learned; interpret fire codes, standards, and directives and advise internal and external managers or stakeholders on industry best practices; plans and oversees execution of projects or studies advancing the state-of-the-art fire protection systems and designs for new and existing facilities/structures.
