Health & Safety Manager

Faulconer Construction Company is in search of a dedicated developing Manager of Health & Safety for its Charlottesville and surrounding areas.

The selected candidate will report to the Sr. Director of H&S, assisting in the safety, health and welfare of our employees. Qualified candidates must be willing and able to travel overnight and work in a team environment. Faulconer believes in LEADING safety, not MANAGING safety. The right candidate must possess quality social skills and the ability to influence safe behaviors through relationship-building and coaching. The selected candidate will also be responsible for providing oversite and guidance to the Area Safety Manager.
Responsibilities
Duties will include:
- Site safety inspections
- Accident Incident investigation
- Safety training (including excavation, confined space, fall protection, material handling, ladder use, concrete, heavy equipment & road work)Mentor safety team members.
- Develop AHA’s JHA’s to be submitted to the General Contractor and NAVFAC officials. AHA’s JHA’s are based on contract requirements and EM385-1-1 regulations.
- Attend any safety meetings that are required by Faulconer Construction and the general contractor.
- Review plans and drawings to prepare plans and assist in planning activities.
- Develop toolbox talks that are specific to our latest trends and industry trends.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis and develop post-incident lessons learned to distribute to field operations employees.
Safety jurisdictions include:
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration
- Mine Safety & Health Administration
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- Department of Transportation (VA & NC)
Job Requirements
Qualifications to include but not limited to:
- BS in Occupational Health and Safety or related field or tentative graduation date (not required, but is a plus)
- 3-5 years as a site safety manager for multiple employer construction sites.
- 8-10 years of HSE experience required in Heavy Civil Construction or Industrial Construction, or bachelor’s degree in HSE or related field preferred.
- Multiple Trade Experience (Electrical, Plumbing, Concrete, Cranes, Heavy Civil, etc.)
- OSHA 500 Certification
- OSHA 510 Certification
- NC DOT Roadway experience
- Valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record
- Ability to pass drug screen.
- Ability to pass a federal, state and local background check.
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
Must Haves:
- Must be a self-motivated, team-oriented professional.
- Experience in leading regional and site level H&S professionals in alignment with corporate guidance.
- Proven senior-level leadership, coaching, business acumen, H&S subject matter expert in civil construction.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, conflict management, and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to influence, coach and cultivate safe behaviors.
- Reside within 30 miles of area of responsibility.
