Senior Transportation Safety Planner/Engineer Project Manager

This position will be a member of the DKS leadership team and will work closely with both local and cross-office teams to win and deliver work. They will manage projects and business development pursuits for a variety of transportation planning projects with a focus on safety. These may include local road safety plans, safety action plans, strategic highway safety plans, highway safety studies, statewide safety implementation plans, road safety audits, safety policy analysis and revisions, and safety grant writing support. This position requires expertise in transportation safety but may also support a variety of transportation planning projects for which a more general breadth of knowledge in Transportation Engineering and Planning is desired. Ideal candidates will bring a positive attitude, a willingness to take on new challenges, and a passion for creating a safer transportation system.

Responsibilities


What will you be doing?

  • Managing transportation safety and planning projects and developing project schedule, budget, and scope
  • Leading technical tasks and reviewing technical work prepared by others
  • Serving as a companywide technical expert in transportation safety analysis and/or planning
  • Identifying and leading business development pursuits for transportation safety and planning projects
  • Mentoring employee owners in their professional growth and enhancing their skills
  • Interfacing with clients, agency staff, and stakeholders
  • Identifying new clients and managing client relationships to win and deliver transportation safety and planning projects
  • Collaborating with teams across our nationwide offices

What are we looking for?

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or similar field
  • 7+ years of experience in Transportation Engineering/Planning, including 5+ years of experience in Transportation Safety Analysis and Planning
  • PE or similar license preferred, or the ability to achieve in the near future
  • Road Safety Professional (RSP) Level 1 or Level 2 preferred, or the ability to achieve in the near future
  • Proficiency in Transportation Safety evaluations: crash data analysis, Highway Safety Manual predictive methods and associated tools (HSM smart spreadsheets, HSS, ISATe, IHSDM), multimodal safety analysis, field safety investigations, identification of safety solutions, and benefit-cost analysis.    
  • Proficiency in project delivery and preparing high-quality work products to submit to clients
  • Experience in speaking to elected officials, public stakeholder groups, and clients
  • Demonstrated technical and non-technical professional writing proficiency
  • Experience in project management and training junior-level staff on project components
