Drector of EHS will lead this function within the company and help build the team necessary to carry out the duties related to the management of EHS and assist plant personnel with activities relating to environmental, health, safety, and compliance matters. Individual will directly manage corporate initiatives related to EHS and and ensure compliance and conformity to EHS in our locations in both the US and Canada regarding permits, regulatory requirements, and internal policies/practices.

Responsibilities

  • Primary duty is to protect employees, customers, and the communities we serve.
  • Develops and maintains a variety of safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures that will ensure all personnel are in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Serves as an interface between local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate and any insurance carrier representatives in order to ensure enterprise wide compliance.
  • Develops, implements and manages programs to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses.  Includes area assessments, injury investigations and establishing clear measurable goals and devising methods to evaluate safety progresses.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains all Environmental and Safety Management systems in accordance with relevant ISO, R2 and RIOS certification requirements; reports to top management on performance, and recommend improvements.
  • Assesses, shares, and leverages industry HSE best practices across sites.
  • Manages enterprises environmental and OSHA regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements.  Ensures sampling and analysis is performed in accordance with permits and company requirements.  Maintain all permit-required records in a format and location suitable for external review
  • Creates and manages budgets for HSE activities including consulting and testing, waste removal, safety equipment, safety recognition activities, etc.
  • Manage incident investigations to ensure uniformity for reporting and documentation.  Leads investigations on environmental non-compliance, safety non-compliance, and root cause
  • Audits work sites to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements and government regulations; recommends and monitors corrective actions to ensure conformance with permits and regulations
  • Provide technical assistance for company managers in mitigating losses from injuries, liabilities, and property losses; develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new standards and safety practices
  • Prepare reports to regulatory agencies (ex. Biennial reports, Tier II, Form R reports, sewer and stormwater reports, air emission inventories, hazardous waste reports, etc.)
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Chemical manufacturing experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the environmental services industry
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
    • Four-year degree required; science, engineering, or safety preferred
    • 5-7 years’ experience leading a multi-site environmental and safety team
