Fire & Safety Technician - GTP

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking Fire & Safety Technicians to join our environmental, health, safety and security (EHSS) team at the new Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, Texas. This position reports directly to the Fire & Safety Supervisor. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Serve as On-Scene Commander for all facility emergencies.
  • Supports and provides leadership to the facility’s emergency response team (ERT) and mutual aid organizations.
  • Records and communicates emergency response related records and key performance indicators.
  • Supports development, implementation, and maintenance of the facility Incident Management Plan (IMP), Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Emergency Action and Accountability Plan (EAAP), and relevant documents related to Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) documents.
  • Serves as the primary contact for safety related functions and activities within the facility off hours and weekends.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and/or point of contact for health and safety policies/procedures.
  • Aids EHSS team members as needed.
  • Assist the medical department with occupational illnesses/injuries as needed (e.g., provide initial on-scene care and evaluation, etc.).
  • Participates in work permit (e.g., hot work, confined space, etc.) assessments as defined by CPChem procedures.
  • Develops, documents, and maintains confined space rescue plans, fire pre-plans and other emergency response pre-plans relating to building layouts, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, and alarms.
  • Develop, review, and revise EHSS policies and procedures as assigned and/or required.
  • Maintains emergency response vehicles and equipment in a ready condition.
  • Coordinates and documents emergency response drills, exercises, training, and post-response critiques.
  • Supports the development and delivery of all emergency response training to include curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Assist in providing on-shift health, safety, and emergency response training to facility employees to ensure a clear understanding of facility and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Performs and/or assures inspection, testing, and maintenance upon emergency response equipment and fire protection systems in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Participates in safety audits and inspections including, but not limited to, inspection and audits of EHSS policies/procedures.
  • Requires 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Provide response to facility emergencies while off-duty as needed (24/7).
  • Additional duties as determined by the Fire & Safety Supervisor.

Job Requirements

Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and similar regulations and consensus standards governing fire safety, fire protection, and emergency response.
  • Must be willing and able to support extended operations such as hurricane staffing, major turnarounds, etc.
  • A self-starter with problem solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize tasks to ensure alignment with projects and department goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lead training sessions relative to Emergency Response, Safety, Health and Security.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Must be able to meet and maintain company outlined physical functional capacity examination.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 5+ years of experience within an industrial emergency response team, including the following disciplines and qualifications:some text
    • Industrial Firefighter qualification (NFPA 1081).
    • Hazardous Materials Technician qualification , NFPA 472/TCFP).
    • Rescue Technician qualification (NFPA 1006).
    • Incident Command System qualifications (NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800).
  • Current National Registry or Texas EMT-B license or higher.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher education emergency response, safety, or closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of full-time Industrial Emergency response experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in developing emergency response programs, action plans, training curriculums, etc. for industrial emergency response organizations.
  • At least 1 year of experience in conducting hazard identifications, incident investigations (i.e., root cause analysis), and internal audits of plant emergency response programs.
  • At least 2 years of on-scene command experience.
  • Fire Water System Commissioning, Inspection, Testing and Maintenance experience.
  • Strong computer, verbal and written communication abilities, team and meeting facilitation skills, and organization and program deployment…
