A Life Safety Systems Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building life safety systems to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer standards. This role supports occupant safety by maintaining reliable operation of fire detection, alarm, and notification systems.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Inspect, test, and service fire alarm and life safety systems (including Simplex systems)
  • Troubleshoot system faults, alarms, and communication issues.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fire alarm control panels, devices, and field wiring.
  • Verify system performance in accordance with NFPA 72 and local fire codes.
  • Coordinate life safety system impairments, testing, and restoration activities.
  • Document work performed and maintain accurate service records.
  • Support system upgrades, modifications, and acceptance testing Systems and Equipment.
  • Fire alarm and detection systems (Simplex, Johnson Controls, and similar platforms)
  • Notification appliances (horns, strobes, speakers)
  • Fire alarm panels, modules, smoke detectors, heat detectors, and pull stations.
  • Life safety system interfaces (elevators, HVAC shutdown, fire doors).

Job Requirements

What You’ll Need

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 2-3 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to use existing procedures to solve standard problems.
  • Experience with analyzing information and standard practices to make judgments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Organizational skills with a strong inquisitive mindset.
  • Intermediate math skills. Ability to calculate difficult figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
