Role description:

Arcadis is looking to hire a Senior Engineer experienced in design of Fire Protection and/or Fire Alarm systems to join our Design & Engineering team throughout the USA on a number of exciting projects.
As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you will lead the fire protection discipline of multiple concurrent projects through pursuits, proposal, design, and construction phases. You will be responsible for leading design efforts and serve as the engineer of record.  You will also support proposal and business development efforts, working with project teams, other senior and junior engineers, project managers, and clients on various projects involving commercial, industrial and municipal / government projects. This role can be fully remote, however you need to live within commutable distance to an Airport so as to attend client meetings in various locations apart from your own state.

Responsibilities

Role accountabilities:

  • Have project leadership level of experience in fire alarm, smoke control, fire suppression, and other related design.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with the ability to work both independently and within a team. Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Lead design teams to develop construction-ready drawing packages with inter-discipline coordination. Design for available capacity, redundancy, reliability, efficiency and safety, as well as constructability and cost.  Inter-discipline knowledge of facility systems.  Experience developing solutions to complex projects.
  • Travel to project sites for engineering site surveys, data collection for system studies, system audits and collaboration with clients’ team members.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, building codes and safety standards such as NFPA as well as international standards.
  • Fluency in design and modelling software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM360, Revit, hydraulic calculation software).  
  • Ability to perform various system studies.
  • Work with designers to develop sealed drawings of your designs.  Provide mentoring to junior staff. Review contractors’ shop drawings and product submittals during construction phase.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or NICET Level 3 or 4 certification.
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience in engineering directly related to fire protection and/or fire alarm design including prescriptive, performance-based design as well as fully detailed design.
  • Ability to produce fire alarm design drawings including device layouts, installation details and risers based on applicable code requirements.
  • PE registration.
  • Experience designing for United States federal agencies such as USACE, NAVFAC, USDOE, etc.dded experience with design of telecommunications, CCTV, access control, or desire to learn.
  • Solid experience working and designing in Revit.  Significant experience leading design teams.
