The Fire Captain will direct and coordinate the activities of an assigned shift. They will be responsible to ensure that appropriate fire/EMS support isprovided in the controlling and extinguishing of fires; rescuing persons endangered by structural fires; preventing fire by reducing or eliminating potentialfire hazards; responding to and providing assistance for medical aid calls, vehicle accidents, and Hazmat incidents.


This is considered a safety sensitive position and is subject to both, the Company’s and the Client’s Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, whichincludes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises all subordinate personnel in their assigned duties.
  • Provides effective leadership for all personnel necessary to carry out the business and mission of the Department.
  • Maintains discipline and ensures that personnel follow department rules and regulations. Renders corrective action per company policy/procedures.
  • Implements department goals and objectives, establishes work priorities, schedules and coordinates work to be accomplished per shift. Responsible fordaily log, emergency calls and reports, overtime and injury reports.
  • Response to alarms as an offi cer of a firefi ghting company (shift); performs variety of firefi ghting and EMS (if applicable) functions, including IncidentCommand Offi cer.
  • Participates in daily training exercises and classroom lectures and prepares and conducts trainings for the department when assigned.
  • Conducts fire inspections, supervises shift inspections, assigns work projects and approves completed work.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs.
  • Conducts demonstrations, tours, participates in providing training/lectures on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, first aid and other subjects.
  • Will stay up-dated on latest Fire Department/EMS standards and trends and evaluate possible implementation.
  • Provide expertise in fire prevention, fire suppression and fire investigation strategies.
  • Ensure safe and effective command of incident operations.
  • Assigns personnel and equipment to such duties and uses as the Department requires.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of station and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment and all other Fire/EMS equipment/supplies.
  • Performs routine Safety Specialist work tasks, such as Hot work permitting, Fresh air permitting, Basic confi ned space entry permitting, HazMatescorting and other safety related task.
  • Performs other duties as required by superiors.
  • Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional to meet the client’s needs.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Must have 7+ years of experience in this field.
  • HS or GED.
  • Must meet Emergency Services Certification Program (F&ESCP) standards.
  • Fire Officer II.
  • Fire Inspector I.
  • Firefighter II.
  • Driver Operator.
  • Hazmat Mat Operations.
  • Technical Rescue.
  • EMT - Basic.
  • Fire Instructor I (Desired).
  • Hazardous Materials Incident Commander (Desired).
