EPRI is a research organization that follows the science to help power society toward a reliable, affordable, and resilient energy future. Rigorously objective in our role and our research, we do not advocate for any specific company, sector, or technology. With a foundational mission to benefit society, EPRI delivers independent, objective thought leadership and industry expertise through a highly collaborative approach.
EPRI was founded in Palo Alto, Calf., by Dr. Chauncey Starr in 1972. For more than 50 years, EPRI has grown our R&D network around the world, collaborating with more than 450 companies in 45 countries, driving innovation to ensure the public has clean, safe, reliable, affordable, and equitable access to electricity. With more than 1,300 employees, EPRI maintains a global presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
See how EPRI’s talented team of researchers and partners have provided tangible benefits to society and value to our members since 1972.
EPRI works at the crux of the energy transformation – alongside industry, academia, and government – to better equip society to tackle the energy challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow. Structured collaboration is fundamental to EPRI’s success, and our scientists and engineers partner with hundreds of leaders from government, universities, national labs and environmental groups to develop and conduct our research, deliver results, and apply the findings.
Working across sectors with guidance from a comprehensive advisory structure ensures the scientific rigor and scalability of our work as well as the clear public benefit.
EPRI also serves as the host of the U.S. Member Committee of the World Energy Council, capitalizing on our collaborative tradition to see that community voices and needs are built into energy system solutions.
EPRI’s work to advance the clean energy transition while maintaining reliability, affordability, and resiliency is funded by hundreds of organizations in the energy and government sectors around the world who engage in our R&D and demonstration programs. EPRI members help inform the development of our annual research portfolio, identify critical and emerging electricity industry issues, and support the application and technology transfer of EPRI's research and development. Members remain at the forefront of technology innovation while collaborating with peers, and implementing R&D results with the support of EPRI researchers and technical advisors.
